Naama: So Emo

(no subject)

Even not following the news, word of the death of Benazir Bhutto found its way to me (via islam_feminism ). It upsets me.

But what I had meant to write was another love-letter to the Internet. See, I'm extremely myopic. It started getting rapidly worse when I was thirteen, and I was well scared that I was going blind, then. So I asked an eye-doctor about the "lights" that I had started seeing and whether they were bad. Lights! he said, and looked at me like I was better off seeing a psychiatrist about that. He said that it wasn't normal and that he'd never heard about it. So I never asked anyone about that ever again.

I probably didn't explain it very well, but I was a frightened child and the visit had already been traumatizing enough, with the eye-lid turning operation. Eugh.

It was today, today that I finally, by mere accident, discovered not only what this phenomenon I failed to describe is, but also that it's perfectly normal. It has a perfectly scientific explanation and other people have experienced it, too. So thanks for making me feel like a mutant for half my life, eye-doctor.

ILU, Internet. <3

(The "Myopia" article, on the other hand, is a perfect example of what's wrong with Wikipedia. It's my own fault that I have glasses because I don't EXERCISE MY EYES enough? Fuck you.)
