It's things like these that keep me awake at night

I was searching for information on the evolutionary function of male nipples, and discovered that at one developmental stage every human fetus has seven pairs of nipples. Seven. Traces of which can sometimes be seen as freckles on the belly. And also that men have fully functional milk-ducts and with additional estrogen they could theoretically be made to lactate.

I did not know this shit before.

But I still don't quite buy the 'it's easier for our genetic coding to leave them on' explanation as to why men have them, because would it not then be easier to leave all seven pairs of them on, even if six of them were non-functional? I think they have served a biological/behavioural function at some evolutionary stage of ours. Camouflage on young/weak male offspring, as our sense of smell and, really, sight are shitty compared to some other species. The outward gender characteristics really begin to differentiate at puberty.

And I think I'll stop before reaching the realm of the massively stupid.
