Artwork by Jed Dougherty. His style is reminiscent of Frida Kahlo, and I just love how he handles the subject of mythical women.

An article called How Fanfiction Makes Us Poor by the Livejournaler cupidsbow . It's a few months old and has gathered quite a response.

She doesn't cover it, but it got me thinking about the sociological implications of the prevalence of the Mary Sue fantasy, too. The pattern of it, repeated over and over by young girls in vastly different fandoms, its structure much unchanging. Something about it started bothering me. How we're quick to brush it aside as "badfic" without giving thought to the deeper implications of the phenomenon. What spurs it, what function does it serve?

Who ultimately benefits from it.
